-NICODEMUS WAS CONFUSED ABOUT BEING BORN-AGAIN
It is written, Jn 3:1-3-THERE WAS A MAN OF THE PHARISEES,
NAMED NICODEMUS, A RULER OF THE JEWS: THE SAME CAME TO JESUS BY NIGHT, AND SAID UNTO HIM, RABBI, WE KNOW THAT THOU ART A TEACHER
COME FROM GOD: FOR NO MAN CAN DO THESE MIRACLES THAT THOU DOEST, EXCEPT GOD BE WITH HIM. JESUS ANSWERED AND SAID UNTO HIM,
VERILY, VERILY, I SAY UNTO THEE, EXCEPT A MAN BE BORN-AGAIN, HE CANNOT SEE THE KINGDOM OF GOD. Jesus has just
given us a condition for seeing heaven. That absolute condition is you must be born-again. Few people today understand the
new birth, including preachers. In a survey taken, many people incorrectly thought that being born-again was simply an experience
or a feeling they had. Others believe being born-again is simply to believe on Jesus Christ. Jn 3:4-NICODEMUS
SAITH UNTO HIM (unto Jesus), HOW? Note Nicodemus' first word, "How?" He didn’t understand the concept of the new birth,
even though he was a spiritual leader in Israel. Indeed, he was a ruler of the Jews and a master of Israel. NICODEMUS SAITH
UNTO HIM, HOW CAN A MAN BE BORN WHEN HE IS OLD? CAN HE ENTER THE SECOND TIME INTO HIS MOTHER’S WOMB, AND
BE BORN? These words show us that such a concept as the new birth taking place in a person was something he did not understand,
as is the case with many preachers today. Recently, a well-known person in the world’s largest religious denomination
was asked about being born-again. He stuttered and seemed confused, and was unable to give a satisfactory answer.
THE NEW BIRTH MUST TAKE PLACE IN US, OR WE CANNOT ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD
JESUS ANSWERED, VERILY, VERILY, I SAY UNTO THEE, EXCEPT
A MAN BE BORN OF WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT, HE CANNOT ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD-Jn 3:5.
Note in 1 Jn 5:6,8-THIS IS HE THAT CAME BY WATER AND BLOOD, EVEN JESUS CHRIST…AND THERE ARE THREE THAT BEAR WITNESS
IN EARTH, THE SPIRIT, AND THE WATER, AND THE BLOOD: AND THESE THREE AGREE IN ONE. Again, Jesus makes it clear. A new birth
must take place; indeed, born of water and of the Spirit. Jn 3:6-THAT WHICH IS BORN OF THE FLESH IS FLESH; AND THAT WHICH
IS BORN OF THE SPIRIT IS SPIRIT. Clearly, Jesus is showing us that there are two births. The first birth is of the
flesh. This is what we call our birthday. Yet a second birth must take place, or we cannot see the kingdom of heaven.
How to be born again
How do people become “saved” and “born again” Christians? How can you receive eternal life so
that you will be sure to go to be with God when you die? A widely distributed Christian tract says the following is what the
Bible requires.
- Admit that you are a sinner.
The Bible says, “For all have sinned and come short
of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
- Know that God has already provided for your salvation.
“For God so loved the world
that he gave his only begotten Son [Jesus Christ] that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life”
(John 3:16).
- Know that you cannot save yourself.
“Not by works of righteousness which we have
done but according to his mercy he saved us” (Titus 3:5).
- Repent of your sins.
“Except ye repent ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke
13:3).
- Ask Jesus Christ to save you.
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
shall be saved” (Romans 10:13) and “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31).
- Proclaim Jesus before others.
“If thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved. For with the heart man believeth
unto righteousness: and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9, 10).
You can be joyously “saved” and “born again” and receive eternal life right NOW, as millions of
people worldwide have, when you receive Jesus Christ as your Savior.
Can you genuinely say a prayer like the following? If you are sincere, God will immediately save you and give you everlasting
life.
A guide to what to pray:
“Dear Father in Heaven, I realize that I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ died
for my sins [sins are wrongdoings]. I am willing to turn from my sins and lead the life you want me to lead. I now ask Jesus
Christ to come into my heart and I receive Him into my life as my personal Savior. I am willing, by God's grace, to follow
and obey Christ as the Lord of my life.”
What next?
Would you like to show your faith in Jesus right now? Start by letting someone (another Christian) know you are saved.
(Let us at Creation Tips know too, of course; or even just let us know if you are not sure whether anyone close
to you is a born-again Christian. Click our email address at the bottom of this page and let us know, for our records, the
date you were saved.) Then …
Get a Bible and read it every day to get to know Jesus Christ better.
- Talk to God in prayer every day.
- Tell others about Christ.
- Join a Bible-believing church and get baptized. Worship, fellowship, and serve with other Christians in a church that
truly believes the Bible and where Christ is preached.
[As a born-again Christian you will now miss out on what the Bible describes as the alternative to spending eternity
in Heaven. Here's a glimpse of what it may be like.
